
Thai Union shutters UK smoked salmon operation
No feasible alternative solution to closure was found during a collective consultation.
Européenne de la Mer, a subsidiary of Thai Union Group, announced Wednesday the closure of the UK-based salmon smoker, The Edinburgh Salmon Company Ltd (ESCo).
The company said no feasible alternative solution to closure was found during a collective consultation which was announced on Sept. 27.
As a result, the company will cease production at the end of the year.
Thai Union mulls closing or selling UK smoked salmon subsidiary"ESCo remains ready, and will maintain the necessary employees, to fulfill all current contracted obligations which run until the end of the year, when we will cease production," said the company.
"At this time, our primary concern is the future of our employees and we are now entering into an individual consultation process with each of them."
Européenne de la Mer added it is making every possible effort to support them in their search for alternative employment.
"We are exploring all opportunities and are working with the Scottish Government and local enterprise and skills agencies to identify employment options in the local area," the company added.
