India calls for ownership in Indian Ocean tuna fisheries

The compound annual growth rate of tuna and tuna-like species is 3.2 percent.

India called on the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) to ensure equity and democratic processes and pave the way for larger opportunities for smaller players like themselves within the fisheries, the Hindu Business Line reports.

Authorities find it difficult for developing countries such as India to compete against bigger players.

The 23rd session of IOTC is taking place in India between June 9 and June 21, joining 31 countries as members.
