Fair Trade exec takes seafood sustainability role at global hotel chain

Exec has more than 10 years experience working with seafood supply chains.

Spanish hotel chain Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has hired Adriana Sanchez as its responsible seafood strategy director.

Sanchez joins Iberostar’s "Wave of Change" team from her role as business development manager at Fair Trade USA.

Sanchez comes to the role with 10 years of experience working with seafood supply chains and supporting global fishery improvement projects (FIPs). Prior to Fair Trade, she worked as the sustainability director of Florida-based seafood supplier Sea Delight.

“With Adriana’s experience we add momentum to our MSC CoC [Marine Stewardship Council Chain of Custody] certified restaurants and work on traceability with FishWise and WWF-US," said Iberostar Global Director for Sustainability Megan Morikawa.

Iberostar said it is the first hotel chain with properties in southern Europe and the Americas that are both MSC and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified for sustainable and responsible seafood practices.

The chain currently has seven MSC/ASC certified restaurants: five in Spain, one in the Dominican Republic and one in Mexico. In 2020, Iberostar plans to more than double that number to at least 15.
