French retail giants issue toxic shellfish recalls

Since June 8, mussels from Italy and France have been recalled because of PSP and salmonella alerts.

French supermarket chains Intermarché and Carrefour issued separate recall notices in recent days for mussels contaminated with the toxin PSP (Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning) and salmonella.

Consumers were warned not to eat Italian Maredoc produced mussels from batch number (lot) 107292 being sold in 10 kilogram bags at Intermarché and Maredoc mussels from lot 107329 in 1.4 kg trays sold by Carrefour.

Then on Tuesday Carrefour told customers not to consume mussels from the Bouzigues region of southern France carrying bar codes 3 417 990 701 829, 3 276 550 338 284 and 3 417 990 000 236 due to the risk of salmonella poisoning.
